A registered warrant is a ?promise to pay,? or an IOU, that is issued by the State when there are not enough funds to pay all of its General Fund obligations. Registered warrants bear interest and are redeemable by the State Treasury only when the General Fund has sufficient money. If the Legislature and Governor fail to enact budgetary solutions that provide enough cash for the State to pay all of its bills by July 2, the Controller will begin issuing registered warrants. Assuming there is adequate cash in the Treasury, those warrants may be redeemed on October 2, 2009. Both the issue and the maturity date will be printed on the warrant. If the Pooled Money Investment Board (PMIB) determines there is sufficient cash available for redemption at an earlier date, the warrants may be redeemed earlier than October 2, 2009... more http://www.sco.ca.gov/5935.html

Brown Jr. today sued Maurice Irving Glad and his 22 California Midas auto shops to stop a "massive bait- and-switch scam" in which customers were offered cheap brake specials and then charged hundreds of dollars more for unnecessary repairs. The undercover operations revealed that over four years Glad's Midas shops regularly advertised $79 to $99 brake specials to draw customers in and then charged another $110 to $130 for unnecessary brake rotor resurfacing services - and hundreds of dollars more for repairs that were not needed or never performed.
- Brown Shuts Down Illegal Gaming Operations in Stockton and San DiegoFri, 26 Jun 2009 0:00:00 UTCSacramento -- Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced that agents from his office this week raided Internet cafes in Stockton and San Diego that illegally operated "Las Vegas-style games" including video poker, keno and slots. "Agents from my office shut down Internet cafes in Stockton and San Diego that are a cover for illegal gaming operations," Brown said.
